Robert and Hester
Early CdVs
Photo image set None of these Carte de Visites are annotated with names. Where possible, these images have been mapped to the family tree, based on the likely date (hair style etc) and the location of the photographic studio. The McMahon album contains numerous CdV cards which do not appear to relate to the family. These may be cousins of Hester for instance.
Donat and Bella
Early CdVs
Photo image set Donat and Belle are identifiable by their concurrent photos. Pearl requested a copy of the one of Belle "leaning her head on her hand" (in banner image on this page). There are no photos of Donat in uniform and there don't seem to be any photos of (or information about) Donat's parents.
Daisy and siblings
Early CdVs
Photo image set It has been difficult putting names to these images. The photographaphic studio and location, styling of the CdV / cabinet card, hairstyles and clothing can give clues as to the likely date. Thereafter it is a matter of face recognition from the other images.
Later studio portraits Photo image set Quality images by professional portrait photographers.
Frank's photo album Photo image set This album contains 48 contact prints - size 6cm x 9cm. None are dated but they look to date from the 1890s. There is also a small set of slightly larger prints. The camera was almost certainly Frank's. There are a couple of early images of Leomington Spa.
There are some interesting shots of GWR broad-gauge steam trains, probably from Frank's time at Swindon. These must have been taken before May 1992, when the last remaining broad-gauge stock was withdrawn.
A few of the images are annotated with their location, but none identify the individual's names. Frank and his elder brother are easily recognised though. And the lady at Grafton House is doubtless their mother.
A consequence is that these images do not illustrate any narrative. Rather, they serve to show the leisure activities enjoyed by affluent late Victorian families.
Wedding photographs Photo image set Photos of:
(1) Daisy & Frank's wedding in Rajkot, Gujarat in 1902.
(2) the wedding in Instow, 1922, of Katleen Slatter to the St Ives artist George Fagan Bradshaw,
(3) the society wedding of Doris and Lieutenant George Maitland Edye in 1928.
Photos by members of the family Photo image set These cover a wide period. They are personal photos by family & friends:
(1) Shots in 1901, possibly taken by Daisy, during a visit to the palace at Gondor by the Govenor of Bombay, Lord Northcote.
(2) Daisy with Miss Wickham, with whom she stayed while recovering from typhoid prior to her wedding
(3) Simla
(4) Postcard photos of the Godavari bridge nearing completion in 1907
(5) Daisy & Frank in East Africa
(6) Ada & Arthur Slatter in East Africa
(7) Work-related photos from Frank's time in Burma
Burma Photo image set These date from 1914 when Frank & Daisy lived in the Maymyo hill-station in Burma. They include shots of Frank's inspection tours, some presumably taken by Daisy. They illustrate some of Daisy's leisure pursuits.
